The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), established in 1875, is not only the oldest stock exchange in Asia but also one of the largest in the world, with over 6,000 listed companies. It plays a critical role in managing India’s financial markets, helping direct resources toward the country’s economic growth. The BSE offers a wide range of services, including corporate data, market data products, and end-of-day (EOD) reports.

BSE Trading and Clearing Holidays: What’s the Difference?

BSE observes two types of holidays: trading holidays and clearing holidays.

  1. Trading Holidays: On these days, no transactions take place in the BSE across all segments, including equity, derivatives, and SLB.
  2. Clearing Holidays: While trading can occur on clearing holidays, the financial transfer of resources between investors and companies is delayed because the banks are closed. This means settlements will be processed on the next working day.

Muhurat Trading on Diwali

Muhurat Trading is an auspicious occasion for trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange. This special one-hour session is conducted on Diwali, one of the most significant festivals in India. In 2024, Muhurat Trading will be held on November 01. The specific timings for this session will be announced closer to the date. Muhurat Trading symbolizes prosperity and is a tradition for many traders and investors who view it as a good time to begin new ventures or investments.
